Understanding PoSciDonDAO's Governance System

PoSciDonDAO uses a dual governance system to ensure both broad community participation and expert oversight in decision-making. This structure helps balance inclusive community governance with specialized scientific review.

Two Types of Governance

1. Operations Governance (Community-Wide)

  • Who Can Participate: Anyone holding SCI tokens

  • Purpose: To make decisions about

    • DAO operations and management

    • Treasury allocations

    • Parameter changes

    • Protocol upgrades

    • Community initiatives

  • Voting Power: Based on amount of locked SCI tokens and voting type per proposal

  • Special Feature: Includes quadratic voting for certain proposals

  • NOTE: Initial research funding proposals will be organized through the Operations Governance system. Once the Due Diligence Crew has gained sufficient members (15+), research funding proposals will be governed through the Research Funding Governance system.

2. Research Governance (Expert Review)

  • Who Can Participate: Due Diligence (DD) Crew members only

  • Purpose: To evaluate and decide on

    • Research proposals

    • Grant applications

    • Scientific project funding

    • Research outcome validation

  • Requirements: Must hold 1,000 SCI tokens (subject to change) and be elected as DD member

  • Responsibility: Ensuring scientific merit and feasibility

How Voting Works

For Operations Governance:

  1. Regular Voting

    • Each locked SCI token = 1 vote

    • Minimum requirement: 1 SCI token

    • Earn PO tokens for participation

    • Voting streaks increase rewards

  2. Quadratic Voting (Special Proposals)

    • Voting power = √(SCI tokens)

    • Requires identity verification

    • Prevents wealth concentration

    • More democratic decision-making

For Research Governance:

  • DD members start off with equal voting weight but can be adjusted based on expertise and experience level

  • Focuses on technical and scientific merit

  • Requires expertise and active participation

  • Decisions based on scientific criteria

Proposal Process

  1. Discussion Period

    • Community feedback

    • Amendments and improvements

    • Expert input

  2. Submission

    • Operations: Need 5,000 SCI tokens to propose (subject to change)

    • Research: Must be DD member to propose

  3. Voting Period

    • 2-week voting window (subject to change)

    • Can change votes within 12 hours (subject to change)

    • Final decisions locked 3 days before end (subject to change)

  4. Execution (if applicable)

    • Automatic if approved

    • Must meet quorum requirements

    • Transparent on-chain execution

Important Notes:

  • 🏛️ Dual system ensures both community voice and expert oversight

  • 🔍 Research proposals get specialized review

  • 🗳️ Operations decisions involve entire community

  • 💫 Earn rewards for active participation

  • 🤝 System designed for fairness and expertise

  • 📈 Parameters can evolve through community voting

Remember: This governance structure combines the wisdom of the crowd with expert knowledge, ensuring both democratic participation and scientific rigor in decision-making! 🌟
